A hang glider crashed on Thursday at the Altes Lager airfield in Niedergörsdorf (Teltow-Fläming district) and was seriously injured. The site, a former military airfield, is located near the small town of Jüterbog and about 80 kilometers south of Berlin. The hang-glider wanted to start with the help of an ultralight aircraft, as the West Police Department announced. He fell from a height of several meters for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
The man who used the kite suffered serious injuries, according to police. He was taken to the hospital in a rescue helicopter. “We now have to examine exactly how this happened,” said the police spokeswoman about the accident.
The airfield is used by paragliders and hang-gliders. In August last year, two people died in Niedergörsdorf when a motorized light kite crashed.
