Nuremberg Airport once again recorded significantly more passengers last year and was therefore also able to increase sales. The bottom line was that there was also a loss in 2022, as Managing Director Michael Hupe announced in Nuremberg on Wednesday.
Due to the sharp increase in air traffic from April 2022, sales increased to 81.48 million euros. This corresponds to an increase of 91.2 percent (2021: 42.61 million). The loss was therefore 12.64 million euros after a loss of 14.88 million euros in the previous year.
Compared to 2021, the number of passengers at Franken-Airport tripled to around 3.3 million last year – according to the information, the number is still 20 percent below the value of the pre-Corona year 2019.
The airport expects a positive development for the current year. The annual passenger volume is expected to increase to 3.9 million and sales to more than 93 million euros. Due to rising personnel and operating costs, the airport still expects a loss of around 17 million euros for 2023.
Before the pandemic, the airport, which was shared equally by the city of Nuremberg and the Free State, had around four million passengers a year. In 2020 and 2021, the number had fallen to around one million and at times fell to almost zero.
