A young German vacationer is believed to have died on a boat trip on Lake Iseo in northern Italy. According to the police, the 20-year-old woman fell into the lake near the town of Pisogne on Friday afternoon and went under.
The search was unsuccessful even after more than 24 hours. The chances of finding her alive were assessed as minimal as of Saturday night. It is believed that she could have hit her head on the boat when she fell.
According to the police, the 20-year-old, who comes from Bavaria, was on a rented speedboat with other young Germans. According to a report by the Italian news agency Ansa, the public prosecutor’s office initiated investigations into a 23-year-old who is said to have driven without a license. According to initial findings, she accelerated so quickly that the 20-year-old lost her balance and fell into the lake.
The search with a diving robot is to be continued on Sunday. Like Lago Maggiore, Lake Garda and Lake Como, Lago d’Iseo is one of the large lakes in Northern Italy. In places it is up to 250 meters deep. Lake Iseo also became known a few years ago through an installation by the artist Christo, who connected the shore and an island with colorful floating jetties.
