A ten-year-old pulled a seriously injured boy out of the water of an outdoor pool in Wetter an der Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia, possibly saving his life. The child injured himself while playing on Friday afternoon, reported the natural pool at the lake. “Taken from the non-swimmer pool by an attentive visitor of the same age, he was immediately given first aid by the employees of the natural outdoor pool and emergency services of the DLRG.” A spokesman for the fire brigade in the Ennepe-Ruhr district said on Saturday that the boy had hit the edge of the pool after a head jump.

The child was taken to a hospital in a rescue helicopter. It is not known whether the boy was unconscious or had to be resuscitated. The police initially gave no information about the incident. According to a report by “RTL online”, the young “hero” saw the injured man floating motionless in the pool, jumped into the water and pulled him out. Then adults rushed over and looked after the children until the rescue workers arrived.

It was not known on Saturday how the seriously injured ten-year-old was doing. The sponsoring association of the natural outdoor pool wrote on its website: “We keep our fingers crossed that he will recover quickly.”
