When two cars collided on Friday in the Upper Palatinate Forest, a 75-year-old passenger died and her 80-year-old husband suffered serious injuries. According to the police, the senior wanted to drive his car from the Kleinschwand district of Tännesberg onto the federal highway 22 and gave way to another vehicle in which a family with two children was sitting.

The car with the family turned 180 degrees and came to a stop in the bulge of a bus stop, the police said in the evening. “The family did not need medical care locally.” According to the information, the seniors’ car threw itself over the bus stop and fell down a slope. The vehicle ended up there with some of its tires ripped off.

The 75-year-old died at the accident site in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district, it said. Her husband was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident happened around noon. The B22 had to be completely closed for several hours. The total damage to the two vehicles is estimated at around 75,000 euros.
