In North Rhine-Westphalia, an angler rescued two women from a car that had driven into the Lenne river. A police spokesman said it was still unclear why the vehicle left the federal highway 236 in Werdohl on Friday evening. A second car was involved. The vehicle involved in the accident lay on the roof, partly on the embankment and partly in the river.
The angler opened the trunk and pulled the women ashore, according to the police spokesman. They were critically injured and had to be resuscitated. The fire brigade was alerted. A woman was flown to a clinic in a helicopter, the other was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
When the angler pulled the two women out, he said there was no one in the driver’s seat – so there may have been a third person in the car. Another variant is that the driver was catapulted into another seat during the accident, according to the police spokesman. The fire brigade searched the river for a possible third person, but initially did not find anything.
