Canada Post on Thursday unveiled a new stamp in the colors of Ukraine that will raise funds to support this country, a first for the Canadian postal service.

Featuring a sunflower – the national flower of Ukraine – against a blue sky background, the “philanthropic postage stamp” will allow buyers to donate $1 for every purchase of a booklet of 10 stamps.

The sums collected will then be donated to the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, which provides humanitarian aid to this country devastated by the war against Russia.

“Russia’s unprovoked indiscriminate attacks have caused irreparable damage to infrastructure and killed thousands of civilians, including children. […] The results are devastating, and it is with gratitude that we welcome the support of Canada Post and of every Canadian,” commented in a press release the director general of the Canada-Ukraine Foundation, Orest Sklierenko.

The release of a philanthropic stamp to help another country is a first for Canada Post.

First offered in pre-orders, the stamps will be available in all post offices from July 7.
