Hired on Jan. 7, 2020 after Peter Laviolette was fired, Hynes has guided his team to the playoffs this season. They went 45-30-7 to earn the last bye of the teams drafted in the Western Conference. However, she was unable to win a single game in the first round of the playoffs against the Colorado Avalanche.

The chief instructor had also seen his men lower the flag in the first round last year. He boasts a 92-64-10 record since arriving in Tennessee and has 242 wins in 520 career regular season games. He was at the helm of the New Jersey Devils from 2015 to 2019.
