A Colombian drug trafficker based in Zaragoza has been jailed after being caught with half a kilo of cocaine in her car. He was arrested by the National Police along with another man and a woman, who have been released for the moment, but with the obligation to be reachable for the court that is handling the case.
The police operation was the result of the investigation carried out by agents of Group II of Narcotics of the Superior Police Headquarters of Aragon, who had been on the trail of a drug trafficking network in Zaragoza for some time.
The detainees are two men and a woman, aged 36, 42 and 39, respectively, according to official sources from the National Police on Tuesday. The arrests were carried out last Saturday, but it has not been until now that they have been made public, so as not to hinder the investigation.
The alleged ringleader of the group -for whom provisional detention has been decreed- is a Colombian whom the Police had been investigating for some time after having information that he was dedicated to acquiring drugs in Madrid to introduce them in Zaragoza. In the Aragonese capital, the drug was distributed both to final consumers and to other traffickers based in the city, according to the same sources.
As a result of these police surveillance, the agents located the suspect last Saturday, when he was driving his vehicle through the streets of Zaragoza. It was 9:00 a.m. when the Police intercepted the car on the Paseo de Calanda in Zaragoza. The suspect was traveling with the other man and woman who were also arrested.
The investigations indicated that this vehicle was prepared with a hidden compartment to store the drug, which in the jargon is known as a ‘caleta’. When inspecting the car, the agents did find that hiding place. They had prepared it behind the car’s stereo, in the dashboard area. There they found a bag with 526.5 grams of cocaine.
After going to court, the alleged ringleader was sentenced to prison, while his two companions – another man and the woman – were released, but with the obligation to be located so that they could be called at any time by the court.
