The police in Kiel are investigating a traffic accident in the city center on Wednesday afternoon – but into a homicide. It is a case that puzzles investigators.
According to current findings, a 19-year-old drove his Ford across a busy street not far from the main train station in the Schleswig-Holstein state capital at around 4:30 p.m. At an intersection he crashed into a BMW. The force of the impact sent the Ford crashing into a building. The intersection resembled a field of rubble. While the two occupants of the BMW escaped with minor injuries, the person who caused the accident was apparently more seriously injured. The 17-year-old passenger also suffered serious injuries – she died a short time later on the way to the hospital despite attempts at resuscitation. A tragic traffic accident? Apparently not only.
The young person was found to have injuries “that are not compatible with the traffic accident,” the Kiel Police Department said, without giving any further details. In plain language: Someone must have badly damaged the woman before the accident. Under suspicion: The driver of the Ford. He was arrested on site, but was initially taken to a hospital for treatment. A juvenile judge was due to decide on pre-trial detention on Thursday.
The public prosecutor’s office and police are investigating the 19-year-old on suspicion of homicide. The suspect and alleged victim are said to have known each other. Before the accident, there was an argument in an apartment in the Gaarden district, according to the police. “Current investigations indicate that the young woman was taken away from the location in the vehicle against her will.”
The police are now supposed to find out what exactly happened. According to “Kieler Nachrichten”, the scene of the accident was cordoned off until the night for forensic investigation. The suspect could not yet be questioned by the officers due to his state of health.
