Top favorite Michael van Gerwen confidently reached the round of 16 at the Darts World Cup in London.
“Mighty Mike”, as the Dutchman is called, defeated the Austrian Mensur Suljovic 4:2 after an outstanding performance and is now in the round of 16. Suljovic also offered a top performance in the best game of the tournament so far with outstanding odds on the Double fields, but that wasn’t enough. In the previous year, the three-time world champion had to give up early because of a positive corona test.
In the round of 16 on Friday evening, van Gerwen will face the winner of the match between his compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode and European champion Ross Smith (England). Van Duijvenbode and Smith will play against each other on Thursday (1.45 p.m. / Sport1 and DAZN).
