When large and ever-increasing numbers frighten you, there is a very simple way to calm down, at least temporarily: stop counting. That’s probably what the leadership of China and especially the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China thought when they stopped publishing daily infection figures for the corona pandemic from December 25th. However, this may have been necessary because the incoming data was simply no longer manageable. And even the value of this regionally collected data is highly questionable.
