In particular, what is needed are “anchoring of children’s rights in the Basic Law, an active policy to overcome child poverty in Germany and a significant strengthening of the democratic participation opportunities of children and young people”.

Krüger emphasized that this is not just about the children and young people themselves. Rather, it is about “nothing less than securing the future viability of our entire society”. Although child-friendliness is “repeatedly invoked in Sunday speeches”, child and youth policy “still does not have the status that this future topic deserves,” complained Krüger.
