According to UNICEF, four million children are still struggling to survive after the devastating floods in Pakistan. For many, the nightmare is not over yet, reported Unicef representative in Pakistan, Abdullah Fadil, via video link in Geneva.
They lived sometimes in temperatures below zero without heating in temporary dwellings. In the affected areas, including Sindh province, at least 1.6 million children are severely malnourished, Fadil said. Another six million are underdeveloped for their age due to lack of food and disease. This can affect children’s development for the rest of their lives.
Unicef fears that the situation will drastically worsen this year. So far, Fadil said only half of the $173 million in UNICEF appeal for flood relief has been covered.
