On Saturday night, January 14th, Thomas N. celebrated with a friend in the Hüx disco in Lübeck’s old town. According to the police, he left the location around 6 a.m. and probably walked in the direction of Kanalstrasse. At least that’s what pictures from a surveillance camera that filmed the father suggest. Family and friends have been looking for him since then, desperately asking for information on social networks.
The Lübeck police are now reporting that they have probably found the missing person: “After last Tuesday (January 17th, 2023) police dogs struck the water of the Canal Trave during an initial search operation and divers were unable to find anything in the water as a result, today (January 23, 2023, ed.) The search measures will be intensified. Again, from 9:00 a.m., the cadaver dogs were used to confirm the results of the last week. In fact, they struck the same spot this time as well.” Divers then got into the water and found the lifeless body of a man around noon. “Initial investigations revealed that the man is the missing 49-year-old from Lübeck,” says the police report. A passer-by had previously found the missing person’s apartment key and handed it in to the police.
When leaving the disco, Thomas N. is said to have been quite drunk. His daughter told RTL: “He seemed totally disoriented, strangers also had to help him put his sweater on, very strange.” In addition, you don’t know exactly whether he went to Kanalstraße, you only saw on the camera that he crossed the street.” He is said to have left his jacket and cell phone in the Hüx.
The police are currently assuming an accident, but are still investigating the exact circumstances.
