According to the Ministry of the Interior, the number of right-wing extremist activities in Brandenburg fell significantly in the past year compared to the previous year. Overall, last year the police registered 35 right-wing extremist actions such as meetings, information stands or wreath-laying, as can be seen from the ministry’s responses to questions from left-wing member of the state parliament Andrea Johlige. In 2021, the police had reported 53 neo-Nazi and racist activities. The number of right-wing extremist concerts last year remained at the same level as the previous year, when six such concerts were counted.
The number of participants in right-wing extremist actions also decreased significantly in 2022: a total of almost 1,300 participants were registered, in 2021 there were almost 1,900. A change in strategy can be observed, said Johlige. “The right-wing scene is now increasingly focusing on smaller events such as laying wreaths or commemorating heroes instead of larger gatherings.”
Instead, right-wing extremists tried to join protests against the Corona policy, the MP explained. However, these protests are not classified as right-wing extremists by the authorities and are therefore not included in these statistics.
