On the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula (West Pomerania-Rügen), strangers have plundered rows of copper gutters on empty holiday homes. As a police spokesman said on Friday, several cases were reported in the Baltic Sea resort of Zingst. In particular, downspouts, copper bends and gullies were dismantled and stolen. The owners of the houses or their representatives noticed and reported the cases on Thursday.
The pure property damage was estimated at several thousand euros. It is not the first thief of this kind in the Zingst region, but one of the larger ones in recent weeks. In the neighboring district of Vorpommern-Greifswald, this problem has not yet occurred in holiday homes, said a police spokeswoman.
On the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, residents from Berlin, Brandenburg and other eastern German states traditionally have holiday homes. The police advise checking holiday accommodations, which are usually not used outside of the season, more regularly or getting neighbors to do so.
