Car registrations via the Internet should become easier. The Federal Cabinet passed a regulation by Transport Minister Volker Wissing. “From September it means: Allow digital and drive off immediately,” said the FDP politician.
In the future, it should be possible to use a vehicle as proof immediately after a new digital registration with the digital notification. So you no longer have to wait for the vehicle documents and stickers to be sent and you can drive up to ten days without them, as the ministry explained. A license plate must be on the car.
The ordinance, which also provides for new regulations for digital registrations for car dealerships and registration service providers, is scheduled to come into force on September 1st. The Federal Council still has to agree. The states are then responsible for implementing the regulation. Digital approvals are already possible via certain portals. According to the ministry, one of the requirements is a new electronic ID card with an activated online ID function.
