In Italy, a European lottery record jackpot of a good 371 million euros has been cracked. A syndicate of 90 people guessed the six correct numbers that were drawn in the “Superenalotto” game on Thursday evening, according to the lottery company. This is the highest jackpot ever accumulated in a lottery draw and then paid out in Europe.
The traditional Spanish Christmas lottery “El Gordo” always distributes more than two billion euros to winners every year – but this is not a jackpot that fills up. Also, huge single wins are not possible; a lot of tipsters win.
In the Italian “Superenalotto” six numbers are typed in a field from 1 to 90. Since May 2021 and thus almost 21 months, the six correct ones have not been guessed, which is why the jackpot has increased so much. Around four million euros go to each of the 90 successful tippers – they each had a bet of only 5 euros, as reported by the Ansa news agency. The individual winners were not announced, but the acceptance points, which were spread over 16 of the 20 Italian regions, were.
Last November there was a German record in a Eurojackpot draw: 120 million euros went to a player in Berlin. The record prize in a German 6aus49 draw is 45 million euros from April 2022.
The jackpot world record is the $2.04 billion won by a player from the US state of California in a Powerball draw in November 2022.
