While the search for Nick Frischke from Döbern, Brandenburg, who disappeared in the South African metropolis of Cape Town, continues, the local police found a credit card belonging to the German tourist. This was discovered by chance after a house was broken into, as initially reported by the South African news site “People’s Post”.
Investigators found the credit card with the 22-year-old’s name on it during a search of a bungalow in the Cape Town suburb of Hout Bay, where Nick disappeared on Wednesday last week.
Although the missing German has been reported to the police and a public search is now underway for him, the police department initially did not realize the facts, according to the report; the credit card was placed with the confiscated stolen goods in the evidence room of the local police station. Two suspects, aged 22 and 23, were arrested on Tuesday. They are associated with a variety of cases, including robbery and drug possession, and should be brought before the magistrate.
However, the credit card apparently went unnoticed until yesterday, Thursday. Hout Bay Police Station Commander Lt. Col. Jerome Syster told People’s Post: “The individual has not been reported missing to our police station. He has been reported missing to Pinelands Police Station.” Last week, however, the police had already published a wanted report on Nick’s person.
The 22-year-old left his accommodation in Pinelands on Tuesday morning (February 14) and did not return. The following day, a camera filmed him on the Karbonkelberg, which is part of the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town. The police and mountain rescue service started the search for the missing person. Last Tuesday, the Hout Bay Coast Guard suspected that Nick had gone missing on the Hangberg Trail between Hout Bay and Sandy Bay. But there is still no trace of him.
Meanwhile, Nick’s brother Tom wrote on Facebook this Friday: “We really hope that you are found, that you are a fighter and that you persevered.” The whereabouts of the German tourist are still unclear – as is whether he may have been the victim of a violent crime.
