The planned training of teachers at the Brandenburg Technical University of Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is taking shape. The bachelor’s degree is to be set up at Faculty 4 – Social Work, Health and Music at the newly formed Institute for Educational Sciences at the university site in Senftenberg, as the Ministry of Science in Potsdam announced in response to a request from the BVB/Free Voters parliamentary group.
The first students should be enrolled from the winter semester 2023/2024. There are spaces for this. The Ministry explained that voting on the question of how many students can be admitted at the beginning has not yet been completed.
A reliable calculation of the capacity of the degree program is only possible once the planning has been completed and the examination and study regulations are available. The staff still has to be recruited.
According to the information, the university is planning its own teacher training course, but close cooperation with the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Research at the University of Potsdam and the Institute for Further Qualification in the Educational Sector is being sought.
In the 2023/2024 winter semester, the course will initially be offered with a combination of German and mathematics. The total scope of the subjects has not yet been decided. It is also still unclear whether there will be offers for further qualification for newcomers. As it is said, it is currently assumed that there will be an admission restriction for this semester.
