After the murder of an eleven-year-old boy, serious riots broke out in the Argentine city of Rosario. After the boy’s funeral on Monday, relatives and friends of the family demolished five houses that a local drug gang is said to have used to sell cocaine.
They tore down the brick houses with hammers and steel rods, as was shown on television. The police fired rubber bullets into the angry crowd, who threw stones at the officers.

Suspected drug dealers shot the 11-year-old from the indigenous Qom community out of a car on the street on Sunday. Three other children were injured in the attack. Local residents assume that the drug gang Los Salteños is behind the bloody deed.
Rosario suffers from a wave of violence. Several drug gangs are vying for control of the city northwest of Buenos Aires. So far this year, 64 people have been killed in Rosario. Again and again members of the drug gangs attack public buildings, prisons and police stations. Last week, unidentified gunmen fired 14 shots at football superstar Lionel Messi’s father-in-law’s supermarket, leaving a note that read: “Messi, we’re waiting for you.”
