The Los Angeles Lakers are attacking the playoff spots in the NBA despite the injury of their superstar LeBron James. On Tuesday (local time), the Lakers defeated the top team Memphis Grizzlies 112:103 (56:57) and climbed to ninth place in the Western Conference with their second win in a row.
Anthony Davis shone with 30 points and 22 rebounds, and German national basketball player Dennis Schröder was also instrumental in the success. Overall, the builder had 17 points, nine assists and six rebounds. The Grizzlies were missing star player Ja Morant, who has been suspended by his team for at least two games. At halftime, the Lakers honored former player Pau Gasol by pulling his number 16 jersey under the ceiling. The Spaniard won the championship twice with the Lakers.
Dallas beats Utah
Kyrie Irving led the Dallas Mavericks to a 120-116 (59-59) home win over the Utah Jazz. He scored 17 of his 33 total points in the last quarter. After Maxi Kleber had missed the last game, the Mavericks’ German national basketball player returned and scored five points and seven rebounds.
Despite the 39 points of the brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner, the Orlando Magic had to admit defeat with 123:134 (60:70) to the Milwaukee Bucks, where the sick Giannis Antetokounmpo was missing. Milwaukee scored their 18th win from the past 19 games and remains the strongest team in the NBA at the moment. Franz Wagner had 21 points and six assists, Moritz Wagner scored 18 points and eight rebounds.
After nine wins in a row, the New York Knicks lost 105:112 (50:66) to the Charlotte Hornets. The German center Isaiah Hartenstein did not get more than two points.
