After a life-threatening knife attack in front of a Frankfurt nightclub on New Year’s Eve 2019/20, a 21-year-old was sentenced to six years in prison. The juvenile criminal chamber of the Frankfurt Regional Court recognized on Wednesday two attempts at murder, attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.
In a first trial in December 2020, the man was sentenced to six years and three months in prison. However, the Federal Court of Justice overturned the decision in the revision, so that the second trial was now necessary. The court thus complied with the request of the public prosecutor. The defense had asked for five years in prison for dangerous bodily harm.
According to the verdict, the man had initially attacked a bouncer with a knife on the night of the crime because he did not want to let him in because the dance hall was overcrowded. As the argument progressed, the defendant used the knife against two other men. He confessed in court but denied any intent to kill.
