More than 260,000 homes were without power on Tuesday afternoon (local time) in the states of New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. States of emergency have been declared in New York and New Jersey. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul warned that the expected snow would “fall like a brick.” Countless flights were canceled at the airports along the northern coastal regions.

On the other side of the United States, flood warnings were in effect across much of California. Heavy rains hit the state on the Pacific coast, which is actually known for its permanent sun, all day long. Evacuation orders were in place for several towns in southern California. Among other things, parts of the coastal town of Montecito, which is popular with many celebrities, were affected, where, for example, British Prince Harry and his family live.

In view of the simultaneity, the National Weather Service spoke of a storm “double blow”. However, there is no direct connection between the storms.
