The number of students in Saxony has increased. In the current 2022/2023 school year, 511,500 students are being taught at general education and vocational schools as well as at schools in the healthcare sector. This was announced by the Federal Statistical Office on Wednesday, citing preliminary figures. That is 3 percent more than in the previous school year.
Across Germany, around 11.1 million schoolchildren attend general education and vocational schools as well as health care schools. The number of students increased by 1.9 percent compared to the previous year. According to the information, this is the first increase since the 2016/17 school year.
The main reason is probably the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, which forced many people to flee. Exact information on this is not yet available, as the exact nationality is not recorded in the preliminary results, the Federal Office announced.
