A burnt-out van has led the police in the Rostock district on the trail of suspected tool thieves who are said to be responsible for a whole series. As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, a 35-year-old man from Sarmstorf near Güstrow is suspected of having been involved in a number of burglaries at companies, construction containers and company vehicles since the beginning of the year. During searches on the suspect’s spacious farmstead, various tools and machines were confiscated that have been linked to the series that has been going on since the beginning of the year. The amount of the total damage and whether the man still had accomplices has not yet been finally clarified.

A good month ago, strangers broke into a vehicle hall in Bad Doberan (Rostock district), stole tools there and set fire to a company van in the hall. Local residents noticed the flames at night. The fire brigade prevented the entire hall from catching fire. Investigations revealed that the fence and hall gate had been broken open beforehand. The investigation led to the trail of the 35-year-old, as a police spokesman said. Other cases had been reported from the Bützow and Laage regions, among others.
