Victims of sexual abuse in a community in what was then Karl-Marx-Stadt criticize its processing within the Evangelical Church of Saxony. In a statement on Tuesday, they asked to be included in the investigation. Their experiences and experiences have not played a role so far, explained a representative of the group. 16 of the 37 men who reported being affected were organized in it.

According to the group of those affected, a former youth caretaker with “manipulative strategies” looked after more than 1,400 children and young people in the area around today’s Chemnitz for around 30 years from 1956, “but also adults with their sexual desires, theological views and questionable methods”. And it is known that he “did not act without the knowledge of certain church districts”. The men therefore demand transparency and the naming of accomplices.

The regional church office had made the cases of abuse from the 1960s and 1970s public at the end of 2021. The minister, who died in 2013, was later a deacon in Moritzburg.
