Olympic champion France started the European Handball Championship with an easy victory. The record world champion scored a clear 39:29 (17:13) against North Macedonia in Düsseldorf and thus scored the first two points in Group A. The other opponents there are hosts Germany and Switzerland.

The favorites only had a hard time at the start of the game and were down by two goals at 8:10 in the middle of the first half. With a subsequent 4-0 run, last year’s World Cup runner-up quickly corrected the situation and extended the lead to four goals by the break.

After the change, coach Guillaume Gille’s team was no longer in danger and increased the result further in the final phase. The best throwers for the winner were the two left wingers Hugo Descat (7 goals) and Dylan Nahi (6).
