A fire in a barn – converted into a residential building with holiday apartments – in the municipality of Klein Zecher (district of the Duchy of Lauenburg) triggered a large-scale operation by the fire brigade. According to a police spokesman, the carport and the building caught fire on Wednesday night.
A 79-year-old living alone there was rescued from the flames in time. She was in shock and received care, but sustained no injuries. The amount of property damage is estimated at 500,000 euros.
According to the fire brigade, around 120 emergency services were on the spot. The fire was under control after about three hours. Particular difficulties in extinguishing the fire arose from the high proportion of wooden construction and a gun cabinet, which was located in the area where the fire was the strongest. The post-extinguishing work dragged on for several hours.
