The Australian Grand Prix was interrupted again shortly before the end.

In the 55th lap the red flags were waved in Melbourne on Sunday, 58 laps have to be driven in total. The interruption was caused by the Dane Kevin Magnussen, who crashed into the barriers with his Haas. The International Automobile Federation announced that the race was interrupted because tire parts were widely distributed.

After an accident involving Alexander Albon, the Grand Prix Down Under had previously been interrupted for around 15 minutes. The Thai pilot had gone off the track in his Williams and crashed into the barriers.

Early Russell out

Meanwhile, Mercedes had to accept the next heavy setback. After less than 20 laps, flames erupted from the rear of George Russell’s Silver Arrow, which was painted black. The engine had broken down. After a strong start from second place, the Brit initially even led the race. Team boss Toto Wolff watched the failure from the Mercedes pits with a bitter expression.
