A vacationer from Austria died in Mallorca two days after falling from the hotel balcony. The approximately 50-year-old man died of his injuries in a hospital in Palma on Saturday, the media reported, citing the authorities of the Spanish Mediterranean island. The Majorcan police meanwhile announced that they exclude outside influence.

The Austrian fell from the balcony of his hotel room on the third floor on Thursday under circumstances that have not yet been determined beyond doubt. According to reports, he was alone in the room. Guests of the hotel in Arenal about a kilometer and a half west of the “Ballermann” had previously seen him staggering through the aisle in his underwear in the evening. A short time later he hit the asphalt.

Fatal falls from the balcony are not uncommon in Mallorca

Almost every year there are deadly falls from balconies in Mallorca, the phenomenon is known as “balconing”. As a rule, the victims are vacationers who either jump from the balcony into the pool or have lost the key and want to get into the room via the balcony.

The winter break at Playa de Palma is now coming to an end. The first big tourist rush is expected at Easter. The big discotheques then celebrate their opening parties at the end of April, thus unofficially ringing in the season.
