Under the motto “Win the peace – not the war”, numerous people want to demonstrate at this year’s Easter marches in many German cities against Russia’s war in Ukraine and for peace negotiations. According to the organizers’ alliance of peace initiatives, the traditional Easter marches are planned for the weekends in more than 100 large and small cities throughout Germany. Central themes are Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the danger of escalation to a nuclear war and protests against arms spending.
Last year, several hundred to several thousand people took to the streets in many cities on Easter.
The supra-regional peace cooperative network demanded on Tuesday: “The daily dying and killing must finally stop.” The federal government must “finally become more active and start diplomatic initiatives”. It is about a ceasefire, peace negotiations and Germany’s participation in the “Chinese peace initiative”.
The Berlin Easter March begins on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Wedding. The call to action reads: “No more weapons to Ukraine. Stop warmongering and sanctions.” Germany is “part of the killing machine” and is complicit in the thousands of dead and millions displaced through arms deliveries, “war rhetoric” and “enemy images”.
Among the announced speakers are Zaklin Nastic, a member of the Left Bundestag, a representative of the Verdi trade union and the national chairman of the Naturefriends Germany initiative.
