Germany’s ice hockey women failed in the quarterfinals at the World Championships in Canada. The team of national coach Thomas Schädler lost 0:3 (0:1, 0:1, 0:1) against the top favorites USA despite a committed performance.
The again strong goalkeeper Sandra Abstreiter saved the German team from a significantly higher defeat against the superior US team. The World Cup is not yet over for the selection of the German Ice Hockey Federation, on Friday there is still a placement game.
In Germany, DEB sports director Christian Künast was very pleased with the tournament after his return from Canada, where the only aim was to prevent relegation from the top group. “The World Cup is absolutely positive,” said Künast at MagentaSport before the end of the quarter-finals. “Not only did they win three games, they also played hockey very well.”
