In the coming months, the Lindau Art Museum will be presenting iconic and lesser-known works by the pop art star Andy Warhol. The special exhibition “Stars

On the one hand, the exhibition shows works that almost everyone knows. Warhol’s “Campbell’s” soup cans are on display, as are his famous portraits of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe. On the other hand, rarities are also presented, the organizers report. “Our understanding of art is always questioned, because through his work in series and the depiction of everyday things, Andy Warhol elevated mass products to art and at the same time art to mass products.”

Since 2011, exhibitions with paintings by well-known artists have been shown regularly in Lindau in the summer months. The special exhibitions with works by Picasso, Chagall, Miró, Matisse, Nolde and Hundertwasser have so far attracted more than 750,000 visitors, according to the cultural office of the city on Lake Constance.

The concept always includes the display of treasures, most of which come from private collections and art foundations, emphasize the makers. In this way, works could be shown in the presentations that would otherwise mostly lie dormant in secret.

Last year, the museum in Lindau had already shown Warhol’s floral motifs as part of a nature exhibition. His “Flowers” were so enthusiastically received by the public that the exhibition organizers decided to devote an entire exhibition to Warhol’s colorful pop art, the museum reported.
