Italian financial police have found packages containing around two tons of cocaine and an estimated market value of more than 400 million euros in the sea off the east coast of Sicily. During a control trip through the coastal waters of Sicily, the emergency services noticed around 70 packages floating in the sea and held together by nets, the Italian financial police said.
The drug was therefore packaged waterproof so that no sea water can penetrate and the packages could not sink. The authorities spoke of one of the largest drug finds ever made in Italy.
According to the information, the approximately 70 packages contained a total of around 1,600 other smaller packages in which around two tons of cocaine were packed.
