Tennis pro Daniel Altmaier missed the round of 16 at the Munich clay court tournament. The 24-year-old from Kempen was beaten by the Russian Aslan Karazew 6: 4, 6: 7 (2: 7), 2: 6.
The match had been stopped the day before when the score was 0:3 in the third set due to rain. Karazew converted his third match point after 2:59 hours.
Altmaier, who won a Challenger tournament in the USA on Sunday, had a good start to the game and initially benefited from many minor mistakes by the Russian. In the second set, the German missed ten opportunities to take the serve from his opponent. Even after the game resumed, the Davis Cup professional had several breakballs.
This means that of the seven German professionals in the main draw, only three are among the top 16. Olympic champions Alexander Zverev, Oscar Otte and Yannick Hanfmann are expected to play later in the day. Otte and Zverev could meet in the quarterfinals.
