Saturday night in Ballater, a village on the banks of the River Dee. In the pub “The Barrel” a group of mostly older men meet for a beer or two. They are wearing tartan skirts and sporrans, Highland lederhosen and chamois beard hats, and the ballater Highland Games club’s annual dinner is about to begin. “Come on to that later,” says one of them, his name is Robb. “That will be fun!”
