The police acted with evictions against supporters of the right-wing extremist micro-party The Third Way in front of the primary and secondary school in Burg im Spreewald. A letter from teachers describing right-wing extremist incidents at the school caused a nationwide sensation. The spa town of Burg is now initially prohibiting political actions in the vicinity of the facility.

Three people who can be assigned to the party distributed leaflets to passers-by right in front of the school on Wednesday, said a spokesman for the southern police department. They also put stickers on lanterns. The police gave the three men a place reference for Burg, as the spokesman said.

The police are still showing increased presence at the school, it said. There was a kind of crisis meeting of experts and teachers on Wednesday because of the debate about right-wing extremism in everyday school life.

The smallest party, The Third Way, which the Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies as right-wing extremist, wrote that members of its youth organization “National Revolutionary Youth” were active in Burg. According to a police spokesman, they do not come from the Spree-Neisse district. The 2022 report for the protection of the constitution stated that the third way had around 60 members in Brandenburg. The smallest party represents “a clearly right-wing extremist image of the state and society”.

“Situation puts a heavy strain on daily school life”

As a result, the Burg Office issued a general decree to prevent further “disruptions to the school peace”. This was announced by office director Tobias Hentschel in a statement. According to this, parties, groups and associations are not allowed to distribute any advertising, hang up posters or set up any information stands in the vicinity of the school and daycare centers until May 19th.

“The current situation puts a heavy strain on daily school life. The fact that parties, clubs and other groups use media attention for their own purposes disrupts daily school life beyond the already tense level, especially since this creates further media attention,” the statement said . Proper school operations are not guaranteed under these restrictions.

Office director Hentschel also made it clear in a statement that he was concerned about the reputation of the spa. He called for prudence and warned against “general allegations”. The statement also says: “In recent years, the Burger School has always accepted students who do not come from their own area. From students with a migration background to children from problematic homes, everyone deserves a chance, without regard of the person to graduate from high school without prejudice and discrimination.”

The police also sent a letter to the school in Burg and pointed out that the police could be contacted at any time if they had any information. Following the letter from the teachers last week, the investigation into four complexes with criminal relevance continues.

Hitler salute and swastikas

On the one hand it is about the saying “work makes you free”, which according to the teachers is said to have been said in class. This phrase became known through its use as a gate inscription at the Nazi concentration camps. On the other hand, the Hitler salute is said to have been shown in physical education. A group photo that has surfaced shows young people doing the Hitler salute, and there is a complaint from the school about graffiti on school furniture, such as swastikas.

Teachers had reported daily right-wing extremism, sexism and homophobia. Employees and students who acted openly against right-wing schools and parents feared for their safety, according to the letter, whose authors wished to remain anonymous.
