The numerous forest fires in Canada are also making themselves felt on the east coast of the USA. The smoke from hundreds of fires in eastern Canada had moved south and wrapped the US metropolis of New York in a foggy veil, wrote the “New York Times” late Tuesday evening. Photos showed how cloudy the sky was over the Manhattan skyline. The city issued a warning about poor air quality.

After measurements at 10 p.m. (local time), New York Mayor Eric Adams said, according to a statement, that the air had become “very unhealthy” in parts of the city, the newspaper further reported. In Canada’s metropolises of Ottawa and Toronto, as well as in the US states of Minnesota and Massachusetts, authorities warned residents of bad air.

Numerous fires have been raging in Canada’s west and now also in the north-east of the country for weeks. In the south-eastern province of Nova Scotia, the situation had recently eased somewhat.
