It’s about tens of thousands of mobile homes. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) in Flensburg is recalling Knaus and Weinsberg models built between 2012 and 2021 due to safety defects.
According to the KBA recall database, the mobile homes have the following sales designations:
Around 26,000 mobile homes are affected worldwide, including more than 20,000 in Germany. According to the information, the reason for the recall is that parts of the B-pillar paneling can come loose and fall onto the road. “108 incidents are known. None led to an accident,” says the KBA.
Anyone who owns one of the affected mobile homes is asked to contact the vehicle manufacturer or an authorized workshop. A newly developed gluing and assembly process is to be carried out there, which should prevent the parts from falling off in the future.
The camper brands Knaus and Weinsberg both belong to Knaus Tabbert AG in Jandelsbrunn (Bavaria), one of the leading manufacturers of mobile homes and caravans.
The recall of the Federal Motor Transport Authority took place at the end of March, but was only made known now – in good time before the holiday season – through a report in the specialist magazine “AMZ – die Aftermarketzeitschrift”. According to the KBA, there are an average of between 500 and 600 vehicle recalls every year, which the Flensburg authority monitors.
