Rewe boss Lionel Souque gives vacationers little hope of falling prices next season. “I assume that the prices for trips will not go down,” said the head of the retail and tourism group Rewe of the “Wirtschaftswoche”. “Unfortunately, there is no relief in sight for the time being, even if we do our best to agree on good conditions.” Despite the high inflation, the Rewe travel subsidiary Dertour is currently benefiting from strong demand.

“At Dertour we see double-digit growth rates, both compared to the previous year and to the pre-corona year 2019,” said Souque. “People finally want to travel again and treat themselves to something.” The Mediterranean region is still popular. “Greece is particularly popular with our customers at the moment. Since last year it has replaced Spain as the most visited holiday destination,” reported Souque. City trips and vacation trips to the Caribbean were somewhat weaker. “But overall we are very satisfied and will continue to strengthen tourism”.

Other tour operators such as industry leader Tui had recently reported strong demand and in some cases increased capacities.
