Berlin wants to support the almost 100 cinemas in the capital with six million euros over the next two years. According to Senate Chancellor Florian Graf, an initial budget of one million euros has been earmarked for the preservation of the cinema landscape this year. Five million euros in funding are planned for 2025.
Berlin’s cinema scene with around 250 screens is considered unique in Germany. The funds are intended to promote investments in the maintenance and renovation of cinemas. According to Graf, the use of the funding will now be discussed with the cinema associations, among others.
