The state-licensed casinos in Germany attracted significantly more visitors and took in money last year. More than 6.8 million visitors to slot machines and tables in 2023 ensured an increase in gross gaming revenue of around 20 percent to a good 1.3 billion euros, as the German Casino Association (DSBV) in Baden-Baden announced.
The gross gaming revenue indicates the difference between the stakes and the winnings of the players and is the key sales figure in the industry. In 2022, around 5.5 million visitors came to the casinos.
More than half of the industry’s turnover came from the casinos represented by the association. These are primarily public casinos like the one in Baden-Baden. In 2023, these achieved gross gaming revenue of around 685 million euros. That was a quarter more than in 2022. Around 3.5 million people visited the DSBV casinos last year (plus 26.4 percent).
DSBV President Kerstin Kosanke said: “The result is all the more pleasing because it was achieved in a highly competitive and increasingly strong competition.” The state-licensed institutions reached the target group assigned to them by the legislature and thus fulfilled the mandate of channeling gambling and making legal offers. The association therefore represents seven state-licensed casino companies under public law. They have 30 locations in seven federal states. He also represents the casinos in North Rhine-Westphalia with four locations. These were originally organized under public law, but were privatized in 2021. There are also other state-licensed casinos that are privately run and do not belong to the association.
