1. FC Kaiserslautern is sliding ever deeper into the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Palatinate team lost 1:2 (1:0) against SC Paderborn on Saturday evening in front of 36,344 spectators in the Fritz Walter Stadium. While the guests moved into the promotion places, Kaiserslautern suffered their ninth defeat from the last ten games.

Kaiserslautern was the better team in the first half in an overall disjointed game and took the lead after just three minutes. A corner kicked by Tymoteusz Puchacz found Jan Elvedi’s head in the penalty area and he scored to make it 1-0. Puchacz (11th) and Ragnar Ache (24th) could have increased the score to 2-0, but both missed the Paderborn goal. The only real chance for the guests in the first half was missed by Visar Musliu (16th), who headed wide after a free kick from Raphael Obermaier.

At the beginning of the second half, the game had to be interrupted for several minutes because both fan communities threw objects onto the field in protest against the planned investment in the German Football League (DFL). Paderborn came out of the locker room more actively and were awarded a hand penalty in the 65th minute, which David Kinsombi converted to make it 1-1. Seven minutes later, the guests turned the game in their favor. Musliu headed a corner from Obermaier to make it a deserved 2-1 winner in the second half.
