Kylian Mbappé has taken a big step towards the Champions League quarter-finals with Paris Saint-Germain. The French football superstar paved the way for his team to a 2-0 (0-0) win in the first leg of the round of 16 against Real Sociedad.

After a weak first half, the 25-year-old gave PSG the lead after the break (58th minute), Bradley Barcola (70th) marked the final score a little later. The guests from San Sebastián remained surprisingly harmless in the second half.

Before the break, the Basques were the better team. As in the group phase, PSG was initially unable to convince at the start of the knockout round. Overall, Real Sociedad even developed more of a goal threat. Ex-Dortmunder Mikel Merino had the best chance in the first half, his powerful long-range shot hitting the crossbar (45.1).

Mbappé did better in the second half and woke up his team. After a corner, he got the ball completely free at the second post and took the lead. Shortly afterwards, Barcola poked the ball past Real goalkeeper Alex Remiro into the goal for the final score. The second leg will take place on March 5th in Spain.
