According to a media report, Steffen Baumgart will be the new coach of Hamburger SV. According to “Bild” and “Sport Bild”, the 52-year-old should give HSV the decisive touch and make the long-awaited promotion to the Bundesliga possible. The former Cologne player Baumgart will receive a contract until the summer of 2025 and, according to “Bild”, will lead the training on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
After Hamburger SV’s disappointing performance at Hansa Rostock (2:2) under interim coach Merlin Polzin, there were increasing signs that HSV could sign a new coach. Baumgart, who had to leave as coach of 1. FC Köln in December, described himself as an HSV fan. After Tim Walter left last week, the 33-year-old Polzin initially took over the team on an interim basis.
HSV is third in the table after 22 match days, but is already seven points behind Hamburg city rivals FC St. Pauli and four points behind Holstein Kiel.
