My brother-in-law went hiking in the Canary Islands like every year at the turn of the year. When he tried to get up after a rest, he felt a painful shot in his right leg. He took a break for the next few days. Because the symptoms increased, he went to the family doctor at home. He suspected lumbago or sciatica. In lumbago, muscles suddenly become tense, often triggered by an everyday movement. Sciatica pain originates from the sciatic nerve and therefore from the lower area of the back. They usually radiate on one side from the buttocks over the back of the thigh to the back of the knee.
