After the attack that left eight people injured in Wuppertal, the suspected 17-year-old student is still being treated as an inpatient in a hospital. He is being guarded there by judicial employees, the Wuppertal public prosecutor’s office told the German Press Agency. A psychiatric assessment is planned for the weekend.
Four students were stabbed at a high school in Wuppertal on Thursday when the student suddenly attacked his classmates in a break room. Three other students suffered shock. The 17-year-old is said to have injured himself with a knife. He was taken to a hospital. On Friday, the Wuppertal district court issued an arrest warrant against the German-Turkish high school student for two counts of attempted murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.
According to investigators, there is evidence of mental illness in the young person. The psychiatric assessment is planned for this weekend. “However, a result will probably not be available before Tuesday,” said prosecutor Patrick Penders. Investigators have currently ruled out any political or religious motivation.
The four students who were injured by stab wounds did not need to be hospitalized. It was not known whether the students who suffered shock were still being treated there. The Düsseldorf police are investigating the case with a murder squad.
