Christian Dior’s show was like a manifesto: a beige coat with the huge black inscription “Miss Dior” opened the French fashion house’s show. More dresses with the same logo followed. This made it clear that the new collection should be about the late 1960s.
The then Dior creative director Marc Bohan launched his first ready-to-wear line in 1967 under the name Miss Dior. It was the birth of ready-to-wear fashion and a small revolution, because until then luxury fashion had been primarily tailor-made and therefore unaffordable for many. Thanks to standardized sizes, Dior’s designs were now accessible to the general public.
With her new collection, creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri wants to celebrate the cuts and materials that made Miss Dior so successful back then. She showed everyday yet feminine looks, chic blazers with knee-length skirts, comfortable A-line dresses and elegant hats. Patent boots with a high shaft and straps on the back were reminiscent of the 60s and still looked modern.
In keeping with the show’s motto, actress Maisie Williams was also one of the prominent guests. In the new Apple TV series “The New Look” she plays Christian Dior’s sister, Catherine Dior, who inspired the fashion designer to create his successful perfume Miss Dior, which was released in 1947.
